Google Search deploys AI tools to redesign home spaces
Google has highlighted a suite of AI-driven Search features, including interactive mockups and live video guidance, to help consumers visualize and execute home decor projects.

Google is leveraging its latest artificial intelligence capabilities to transform how users plan and execute home design projects. The tech giant reported a massive 300 percent surge in searches for "home decor inspo" over the past month, alongside breakout queries for "bathroom inspo" and "living room inspo," with teal and magenta leading paint trends. To address this growing demand, Google is promoting several AI-powered tools within Search, including AI Mode, Google Lens, Circle to Search, and Search Live, which aim to streamline the transition from inspiration to physical reality.
The AI Mode in Search allows users to upload a photo of their room and receive tailored recommendations. For instance, a user can input their wall dimensions, such as an 84-inch width, and ask the system to generate mockups of specific items, like an emerald green velvet sofa, directly in their space. For physical discovery, Google Lens helps identify vintage items—such as top-trending vintage braided rugs or vintage wood coffee tables—using a smartphone camera. Additionally, the Circle to Search feature on Pixel and Samsung Galaxy S26 devices lets users long-press the home button to identify items like fish wallpaper, which saw a 140 percent search increase, directly from social media feeds.
For hands-on installation, Google is highlighting Search Live, a tool that provides real-time video guidance. Users can tap the Live icon in the Google app to ask questions out loud and share their camera feed for step-by-step DIY assistance, such as installing floating shelves. To manage costs for trending items like funky lamps or harlequin wallpaper, Search also includes price-tracking tools. Users can view price histories to determine if a listing is high or low, compare costs across different retailers, and set up alerts to receive notifications when a product's price drops.
These integrations represent a shift toward multimodal, highly contextual search experiences. For digital marketers and e-commerce practitioners, Google's emphasis on visual search and real-time price comparison means that high-quality product imagery and structured data are more critical than ever. By lowering the friction between discovery and purchase, Google is positioning its search ecosystem as an end-to-end retail and utility platform rather than a simple directory of web links.
