California Builds Public Health Dashboard on Databricks
California has launched a unified behavioral health dashboard powered by Databricks, enabling nearly 40 million residents to track public health data across all 58 counties.

The California Department of Health Care Services has launched the Behavioral Health Public County Profile, a consolidated public dashboard powered by the Databricks platform. Formally announced by Governor Gavin Newsom on October 1, 2026, the public platform merges fragmented behavioral health data from all 58 California counties into a single access point for nearly 40 million residents. The initiative fulfills requirements set by 2024's Proposition 1, which established the Behavioral Health Services Act to restructure state behavioral health investments and mandate greater public accountability.
On July 1, 2026, all 58 counties officially began operating under the new framework, which links funding directly to statewide outcomes, equity goals, substance use disorder services, and housing supports. The new profile acts as an open-access enforcement tool, letting the public review three-year Integrated Plans and evaluate local performance measures. Members of the public can assess demographic distributions, local spending plans, and housing-related behavioral health programs to see if regional investments yield real clinical progress.
To integrate data across disparate municipal systems, the state built the platform on a FedRAMP-authorized Databricks environment designed for sensitive government health data. The architecture leverages Spark Declarative Pipelines for reliable extract, transform, and load operations alongside Lakeflow Connect for external data connectivity. Furthermore, the agency implemented Semantic Views to create unified metric definitions, allowing users to accurately compare operational data between regions like Los Angeles County and Fresno County.
By running on Serverless Compute, the platform eliminates the need for state engineers to manage underlying infrastructure, letting them focus on data products and end-to-end lineage tracking. Every metric displayed on the site can be traced back to its raw source, maintaining data integrity across continuous county updates. The deployment provides a modern template for public-sector data modernization, turning static reporting into interactive public oversight.
