Development toolmaker Zed has officially disabled pull requests on its internal repository, shifting its core engineering workflow to Delta, its specialized environment for supervising AI coding agents. Delta replaces conventional pull requests with real-time multiplayer threads backed by DeltaDB, a Git-compatible database layer that tracks individual edits while maintaining synchronization with traditional version control systems.

To manage team attention inside Delta's thread-centric architecture, Zed added mentions, operating-system notifications, and a dedicated Inbox. Tagging a colleague triggers a system alert and routes the entry for asynchronous triage. In a demonstration of the workflow, a developer named Joseph opens a mention, creates an isolated review subthread, and prompts an AI agent to generate a recap of the parent thread. Because subthreads inherit full parent context, agents can summarize lengthy agent coding sessions without adding noise to the primary conversation.

Thus far, 33 Zed employees have landed 570 changes to the company's main branch through Delta threads alone. The company plans to migrate its internal software development entirely off GitHub within months. However, Zed noted that its public open-source repository will continue to accept standard pull requests from external contributors, while Delta beta participants will receive mentions automatically.

For software engineers utilizing generative coding tools, the transition reflects a practical shift away from traditional asynchronous code reviews toward continuous agent monitoring. By leveraging direct task assignment, an integrated Inbox, and context-aware subthread summaries, developers can maintain control over rapid AI-driven code generation without forcing high-volume agent edits through the bottleneck of conventional pull request review interfaces.
